Mets' Steven Matz: Start pushed back to Thursday
Matz (elbow) will have his next scheduled start pushed back to Thursday, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
Analysis:
The young lefty is dealing with a bone spur issue on his pitching elbow that has caused him noticeable discomfort. ESPN's Adam Rubin adds that, aside from Thursday, skipping Matz in the rotation or pushing him back will not be the norm as the Mets will try to have him pitch every fifth day. However, surgery to remove the bone spurs is inevitable; it's just a matter of whether Matz will be able to push through the remainder of the season with them or undergo surgery that would likely end his season.
