Sanchez joins elite company with 14th quality start
During spring training, Aaron Sanchez was competing for the final spot in the Toronto Blue Jays' rotation.
Fast forward to July, and he's pitching with MLB's best.
Sanchez earned his 14th quality start of the season Monday with an impressive eight-inning performance against the Kansas City Royals in which he allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three. The quality start tied Sanchez with some of baseball's top pitchers for the most this season.
Pitcher | QS | ERA | IP | W-L |
---|---|---|---|---|
Aaron Sanchez | 14 | 2.94 | 113.1 | 9-1 |
Madison Bumgarner | 14 | 2.20 | 114.2 | 9-4 |
Clayton Kershaw | 14 | 1.79 | 121.0 | 11-2 |
Jon Lester | 14 | 2.67 | 107.2 | 9-4 |
Despite Sanchez's high level of play this season for the Blue Jays, manager John Gibbons is still adamant the 24-year-old will revert to a reliever later in the season in an effort to limit his innings count, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Still, not bad for someone who nearly failed to crack the rotation in March.
