Rangers-Yankees game delayed in 9th by rain, teams wait

NEW YORK (AP) A rain delay in the ninth inning at Yankee Stadium kept Texas and New York waiting past 2 a.m. before the game resumed.

Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman held a 6-5 lead Monday night when the game was stopped with a Rangers runner on first base, no outs and a 3-1 count on Shin-Soo Choo.

Umpires halted the game at 10:40 p.m. It finally resumed - with only a handful of fans left in the ballpark - at 2:15 a.m. early Tuesday after a delay of 3 hours, 35 minutes.

Chapman was removed and Texas rallied for four runs against Kirby Yates, taking a 9-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth following two-run singles by Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus.

The start of the game was delayed 21 minutes because rain was in the area, but not a drop fell at the stadium until the middle innings.
