Angels' A.J. Achter: Designated for assignment

Achter has been optioned to Triple-A by the Angels, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Analysis:

The 27-year-old Achter posted a mediocre 3.98 ERA in 20.1 innings of relief for the Angels. He was decent in a swingman role, but arms like his -- average fastball of 91.0 mph, five home runs allowed in 13 appearances -- are a dime a dozen in the Triple-A ranks. The Angels needed room on their 25-man roster for recent waiver claim J.C. Ramirez, so Achter will return to Triple-A Salt Lake for the foreseeable future.
