Mets' Steven Matz: Has a bone spur in his elbow

Matz has a bone spur in his elbow that is likely causing his discomfort, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Analysis:

It appears the Mets have identified the cause of the discomfort for Matz's elbow, and it can't be fixed without having surgery. Undergoing the knife would sidelined Matz for six weeks before he could even begin throwing, For now, it seems as though Matz will try to pitch through it, though surgery will be discussed as part of an organizational meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday. Matz is 7-3 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.19 WHIP this season, so his status is definitely worth monitoring over the next few days.
