White Sox's Miguel Gonzalez: Punished early and often in Saturday loss

Gonzalez (1-3) gave up 10 hits and eight earned runs over 5.1 innings in Saturday's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays. He struck out two and walked three.

Analysis:

The 32-year-old got himself into a heap of trouble in the first two frames and was never able to recover. The majority of the damage came in the first, when RBI doubles from Edwin Encarnacion, Michael Saunders and Troy Tulowitzki put Gonzalez in a 3-0 hole. An inning later, it was Devon Travis touching him up for a two-run homer, making it 5-0 after two. Despite his offense helping him out with a three-homer barrage in the home half of the frame, Gonzalez went on to allow three more Blue Jays to cross the plate before being pulled in the sixth. The veteran has now given up 16 earned runs over his last three trips to the mound and has seen his ERA rise to an unsightly 5.17. He'll try to turn things around versus the Astros next Friday.
