The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies made history Friday when the final out of their contest was recorded.

When Rockies second baseman Cristhian Adames grounded out on a Brad Ziegler sinker, the squads ended the longest nine-inning game in National League history, clocking at an astonishing four hours, 30 minutes.

The lengthy contest surpassed the previous recorded held by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, whose Oct. 5, 2001 game went four hours, 27 minutes.

Friday's game also featured 16 total pitchers, which is the most in any nine-inning game this season. Arizona managed to use every pitcher in their bullpen, not including starters.

Four hours, 45 minutes still stands at the longest nine-inning game in major-league history, accomplished Aug. 18, 2006 by the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
