REYES RETURN?
Jose Reyes becomes a free agent and there's talk he could be headed back to New York. The former Mets star shortstop was cut by Colorado earlier this month after serving a 59-day suspension for Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. Mets manager Terry Collins says he's talked with his coaches about how the team would utilize Reyes if he returned.
BREWING SUCCESS
Milwaukee righty Matt Garza (0-0, 0.90 ERA) has been dominant in his return from a back injury that sidelined him for the first two months of the season, a trend he'll try to keep up in his third start, against Washington. The 32-year-old has walked just one batter in 10 innings while taking no-decisions in one-run losses to the Giants and Dodgers. His resurgence would be big for the Brewers - they rank near the NL bottom in ERA.
KNUCKLING DOWN
Red Sox knuckleballer Steven Wright (8-4, 2.01) has the lowest ERA in the AL, and he'll try to take it below 2.00 when Boston plays at Texas. Wright has allowed just four homers in 98 1/3 innings and held opponents to a .201 batting average. Boston's hitters also get a tough task against right-hander A.J. Griffin (3-0, 2.94), who is returning from the disabled list.
NL EAST REMATCH
Julio Teheran (3-7, 2.66) and Jacob deGrom (3-4, 2.96) get their second showdown in a week after Teheran's Braves beat deGrom and the Mets 6-0 on Sunday. Teheran dominated a one-hitter and struck out seven while throwing a season-high 120 pitches in that game, while deGrom allowed three runs over six innings and lost his fourth straight decision - he hasn't won since April 30.
STARTING OVER
Kansas City infielder Raul Mondesi joins Class A Wilmington after serving a 50-game drug suspension imposed by Major League Baseball. The Delaware-based Blue Rocks will be playing at Winston-Salem in the Carolina League. The 20-year-old Mondesi has one career at-bat as a big leaguer, in last year's World Series.
