Braves GM: I don't see us trading Teheran

Jim Cowsert-USA TODAY Sports

About four weeks ago, Atlanta Braves general manager John Coppolella suggested it was unlikely Julio Teheran would be traded, telling reporters "we would have to be overwhelmed" to move him.

With the non-waiver trade deadline now just over a month away, it seems even less likely the rebuilding Braves will part ways with their resurgent right-hander.

In a wide-ranging Twitter Q&A on Friday afternoon, Coppolella said he doesn't envision moving Teheran, who is currently eyeing his second All-Star berth in the last three years after stumbling through a disappointing 2014 campaign.

Though the Braves have swapped a host of veterans for prospects of late, including Shelby Miller, Andrelton Simmons, and Cameron Maybin this past winter, Coppolella seems content to hang onto Teheran, who remains under control through 2020. After managing a 4.04 ERA (94 ERA+) over 33 starts last year, Teheran has rebounded with aplomb in 2016, crafting a 2.66 ERA (151 ERA+) with a 0.91 WHIP across 98 innings.
