Red Sox's Rick Porcello: Scuffles through 5.1 frames against White Sox

Porcello gave up four runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings against the White Sox on Thursday. He struck out two and walked one while receiving no decision in an eventual 10-inning win.

Analysis:

Things have been slowly backsliding for Porcello of late, as he's been missing far fewer bats than he did in the first month of the season. In April, the 27-year-old righty whiffed 36 batters in 32.2 innings; since then, he's struck out a far more modest 45 over 61.1 frames. In that span, Porcello's allowed 31 earned runs, good for a 4.57 ERA. Indeed, all that extra contact has opened him up to the vagaries of high-BABIP games like this one. It's easier to believe that he's still the same mediocre pitcher he's always been than that April marked some real breakout.
