Derek Jeter has been keeping plenty busy since retiring from baseball.

The former New York Yankees shortstop recently sat down with United States President Barack Obama for a lighthearted conversation that delved into their past, present, and future.

"My dad used to constantly brag about how good he was at baseball so when I was younger I wanted to be a baseball player strictly because my dad played baseball," Jeter told Obama of his inspiration growing up.

Jeter, who retired at the conclusion of the 2014 season, also gave the president some advice about stepping away. Something Obama will be doing in the coming months when his term expires.

"I slept. I don't think I got up, I slept the whole next day," Jeter said. "I was ready to retire. I felt as if I put everything into my career. I got the most out of my career and I was excited about new things to come."

Obama acknowledged that he too is looking forward to catching up on some much needed sleep. He also joked that at 40 years old, Jeter was much too old to be playing during his final season.

"For a baseball player you were old," Obama joked. "C'mon man, we saw you trying to run around those bases."
