Mets skipped Syndergaard's start due to pitch count

Noah Syndergaard's Tuesday start against the Kansas City Royals was pushed back because of his shot at a complete game last week.

New York Mets manager Terry Collins announced Bartolo Colon would take his place because in Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Syndergaard threw 115 pitches - the most he's thrown in a game this season.

"Bartolo comes back a little bit easier. We said if we can bring him back, we can move Noah back a day, give him an extra day with all the pitches he threw," Collins told ESPN's Adam Rubin.

In the grand scheme of things, the move just so happens to work out down the road as well. Because his start is being delayed a day, Syndergaard will face the Washington Nationals on Monday instead of the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.

In four career starts against the Nationals, Syndergaard is 2-0 with a 1.33 ERA, striking out 33 batters over 27 innings. This season, his ERA sits at a sparkling 1.91, while notching 106 strikeouts.
