Cardinals' Jaime Garcia: Earns fifth win against Cubs

Garcia (5-6) gave up two runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 6.2 innings in a win Monday over the Cubs.

Analysis:

Garcia struck out more than four batters in a start for the first time since he struck out eight against the Angels on May 11. In the six starts following that effort, Garcia posted a 5.93 ERA and allowed a .369/.418/.515 opposing batting line. It's encouraging to see him shut down a lineup like the Cubs and pick up some strikeouts, but he only induced five swinging strikes in 100 pitches. He'll have to show he can keep racking up the strikeouts before we can be confident he has righted the ship.
