Jose Reyes is coming back to the Big Apple.

The New York Mets officially announced the signing of the 33-year-old shortstop to a minor-league contract Saturday.

"We made the decision to offer a contract to Jose after extensive consideration and discussion with Jose, his representatives, Major League Baseball and various departments at the Mets," general manager Sandy Alderson said.

"We are convinced that Jose has accepted responsibility for his actions and their consequences and have confirmed he is taking steps beyond those prescribed by MLB, including ongoing counseling. Accordingly, we believe he deserves a second chance to return to our organization."

Fantasy Fallout: Reyes a must-add in deep leagues and NL-only formats

Reyes will report to the minor-league Brooklyn Cyclones and is expected to play his first game Sunday.

The Mets plan for Reyes to spend at least three days in the minors before a possible promotion to the big leagues, although MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports his minor-league stint is likely to last 7-10 days.

"As I have expressed in the past, I deeply regret the incident that occurred and remain remorseful and apologetic to my family," Reyes said in a statement. "I have completed the counseling requited by MLB, have been in going therapy, and will continue counselling going forward."

Reyes, who was officially released Saturday by the Colorado Rockies, longed for a reunion with the Mets, where he made a name for himself from 2003-2011.

He's a three-time stolen base champion, who owns a career slash line of .290/.339/.431 with 118 home runs, 621 RBIs, 117 triples, and 479 stolen bases.

During his previous tenure with the Mets, Reyes was a dynamic spark plug atop their lineup, slashing .292/.341/.441 with 81 home runs, 99 triples, 423 RBIs, and 370 stolen bases.
