The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the signing of left-hander Randy Choate to a minor-league contract.
Choate, 40, is the definition of a lefty specialist, who last appeared in the big leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015, making 71 appearances, but only pitching 27 1/3 innings of work.
The career reliever broke spring camp with the Toronto Blue Jays, but was released Mar. 29.
He held left-handed hitters to a 2.38 ERA last season.
Over the course of his 15-year career, the journeyman owns a 3.90 ERA across 672 appearances.
