The Boston Red Sox lost yet another left fielder to injury Thursday, as Chris Young will be placed on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a right hamstring strain in the second inning of his club's 8-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox, manager John Farrell told reporters.

Young, who had to be helped off the field after blowing out his hamstring while rounding first following a base hit off James Shields, is now the third Red Sox left fielder to hit the disabled list in the last five weeks, joining Brock Holt (concussion) and Blake Swihart (ankle sprain).

With so many Red Sox nursing injuries, and with Rusney Castillo getting outrighted off the 40-man roster earlier this week, Farrell wouldn't speculate as to who will replace Young on the active roster. At Fenway Park on Thursday, recently recalled Ryan LaMarre - now 2-for-27 in 24 career MLB games - took over for Young after he injured his hamstring.

Replacing Young's offensive production won't be easy, though, as the former All-Star managed a .837 OPS (120 wRC+) with six home runs and 12 doubles through 47 games this year prior to Thursday's contest, hitting .340/.404/.638 in 52 plate appearances against left-handed pitching.
