Astros sign 1st-round pick Whitley

The Houston Astros announced the signing of first-round pick Forrest Whitley on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7 high school right-hander was selected with the 17th pick in the 2016 MLB Draft after striking out 53 batters over 27 innings with Alamo Heights.

Whitley's deal is reportedly worth $3,148,000, which is higher than the $2,504,200 slot value for the No. 17 pick, according to Jim Callis of MLB.com.
