Carlos Correa has been diagnosed with a left ankle sprain after x-rays returned negative following the Houston Astros' 5-3 loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters postgame, according to Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

The Astros' shortstop suffered the injury at first base as he ran out a routine grounder in the fifth inning. He was immediately replaced by Tony Kemp and has been listed as day to day.

"Obviously I was scared when I touched the bag and then the pain was there," Correa said, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jake Kaplan. "When I was able to stand up, obviously I felt a lot better. I was able to walk limping at least and obviously it was not that bad."

Correa is unlikely to play in Houston's next game, which comes tomorrow in Tampa Bay against the Rays, but Hinch doesn't expect his starting shortstop to require time on the disabled list.

"Hopefully I'll be good to go in a couple days," Correa said, according to Kaplan.

Correa finished Thursday's game going 1-2 with a walk.
