Blue Jays' Aaron Sanchez: Strikes out career high against Tigers
Sanchez (5-1) pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out a career-high 12 against the Tigers. Despite his impressive performance, he did not factor in the decision.
Analysis:
Sanchez was great Tuesday, as he took a one-hitter into the ninth inning, but lost his dominance with a 2-0 lead in the final frame. Chasing the first complete game of his career, Sanchez gave up a single and a double to begin the bottom of the ninth. Manager John Gibbons decided that was enough to put in Roberto Osuna (who was 13-for-14 in save chances before this one). To Sanchez's dismay, the closer blew his second save of the season, and the starter's outstanding effort went by the wayside. The 23-year-old right-hander will make his next start Sunday against the Orioles.
