Angels' Andrelton Simmons: Progressing, could return in as few as three weeks

Simmons (thumb) took batting practice Tuesday and participated in some light fielding work as well, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

Analysis:

Simmons continues to make solid progress as he works his way back from a torn ligament in his thumb. According to Fletcher, Simmons could return in as few as three weeks, which would put him on track for the early end of his initial timetable. With that, a return before July could certainly be in the offing for the shortstop, but he'll need to continue to progress at this rate in order to make that happen.
