Big Unit fakes injury to win mascot race

MLB.com

Randy Johnson relied more on stuff than deception throughout his illustrious, 22-year career, but the mascot version of The Big Unit is all about the tomfoolery, it appears.

Ahead of the sixth inning Saturday at Chase Field, the mascot-ized Hall of Famer (and Arizona Diamondbacks great) pulled a fast one in the Legends Race, coming out on crutches with his head all bandaged up to disarm his fellow competitors (Luis Gonzalez, Matt Williams, and Mark Grace). When the three slowed up so as not to embarrass the ostensibly ailing left-hander, Johnson, the rapscallion, ditched the crutches and sprinted towards the finish line, leaving the other three in his dust.

It shouldn't come as a surprise, though, that a guy with 303 career victories knows how to get a win.
