Starting pitchers Alfredo Simon and Chase Anderson exchanged hit-by-pitches that nearly triggered a benches-clearing brawl during Saturday's rowdy affair between the Reds and Brewers in Milwaukee.

Tempers began to boil over in the top of the fourth when Anderson, who had already hit two Reds players during the second inning, plunked bunt-showing Simon on the back. The Reds starter flung his bat in anger and glared toward Anderson, though no warnings were issued.

The brouhaha intensified in the fifth when Simon was immediately ejected after drilling Anderson between the shoulders with a 1-0 fastball. Both benches nearly emptied but umpires quickly deescalated the situation.
