Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez had to be helped off the field during Saturday's contest against the Chicago White Sox after colliding with teammate Cheslor Cuthbert.

Perez was tracking down a foul pop-up by White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton between home plate and third base in the ninth inning. Cuthbert, filling in at third for the injured Mike Moustakas, didn't realize Perez was calling him off until it was too late, leading the infielder to fall onto Perez's left knee.

The catcher avoided structural damage to his knee, according to Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star, and was diagnosed with a quadriceps contusion. He'll undergo an MRI on Sunday.

It's the second player collision in less than a week for the Royals after Alex Gordon and Moustakas ran into each other in foul territory Sunday. Gordon suffered a fractured scaphoid bone in his wrist, ruling him out for three-to-four weeks. The club announced four days later that Moustakas had torn his ACL on the play, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
