Padres' Christian Friedrich: Wins first game of season

Friedrich (1-1) dazzled Friday against the Diamondbacks, tossing seven scoreless innings in which he only allowed three hits and a walk while fanning five.

Analysis:

The 28-year-old has struggled a bit since joining the rotation, but that wasn't the case Friday, and he bounced back nicely after going 3.1 innings in his last start against the Dodgers exactly one week ago. The five strikeouts are a season-high mark for him, and he lowered his ERA to 1.65. He will look to keep it going in his next start Wednesday against the Mariners.
