New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia has etched his name into the franchise's record books.

The 26-year-old set the franchise record for consecutive regular-season saves Wednesday against the Washington Nationals, converting his 32nd straight regular-season save, dating back to July 30, 2015.

The native of the Dominican Republic broke a tie with Billy Wagner for the club record. Wagner converted 31 straight attempts with the Mets between 2006-07.

After allowing back-to-back singles in the ninth inning to Jayson Werth and Daniel Murphy, Familia shut the door on the Nationals to give him his 16th save of the season in 16 chances.

"You saw what happened when he got in trouble," manager Terry Collins told ESPN after Familia's performance. "He picked his game up."

If Familia can remain perfect for the entire campaign, he could put himself in exclusive company along with Eric Gagne, Jose Valverde, and Brad Lidge, who've all had perfect seasons as closers.

Familia, who became the Mets closer last season en route to a 43-save campaign, owns a career 2.39 ERA in 191 big-league appearances.
