Alex Gordon: I've sucked so far this season

The Kansas City Royals will be without Alex Gordon for the foreseeable future after he fractured his right wrist in a collision with Mike Moustakas.

The injury forced the outfielder to the disabled list, but Gordon plans to do something positive with the time off: try to figure out why he's struggled at the plate so far this season.

"Because I've sucked so far this year?" Gordon told Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star when asked if the injury gives him a mental break from his struggles. "Pretty much."

Prior to his injury, Gordon was hitting .211/.319/.331 with four home runs and 10 RBIs. He understands he needs to produce more for the defending World Series champions when he returns from the DL.

"Obviously, I haven't played the way I've wanted to this year so far," Gordon explained. "But the unfortunate part is, in baseball you always have tomorrow, and right now, I don't have that. I just got to keep my head up. And hopefully when I come back, I'll be feeling a little bit better at the plate and hopefully will help this team out a little bit more than I have so far this year.

"It just hasn't clicked for me yet. If I could explain it, I would probably be feeling a little bit better out there."

The three-time All-Star was one of the most sought-after free agents during the offseason and ultimately signed a four-year, $72-million contract to return to Kansas City; the only club he's ever played for in the big leagues.

Over his 10-year career in the majors, Gordon has slashed .267/.347/.432 with 138 home runs, 533 RBIs, and 84 stolen bases, while winning four Gold Gloves.
