Angels' Andrelton Simmons: Resumes baseball activities, but still "weeks away" from return

Simmons (thumb) has resumed light baseball activities but he remains "weeks away" from a return to the Angels, manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com on Tuesday.

Analysis:

Simmons has begun taking dry swings, playing catch, and taking grounders, according to Angels' beat writer Alden Gonzalez. However, Simmons remains in the early stages of his rehab program as he recovers from a serious thumb injury. Late June still appears to be on the early end of Simmons' return timetable, but it's encouraging nonetheless that he's resumed participating in light baseball activities.
