Veteran left-hander Joe Beimel has reportedly agreed to a minor-league contract with the Kansas City Royals just weeks after the Miami Marlins backed out of a similar deal, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports. The deal is pending a physical.

Beimel was set to report to extended spring training with the Marlins before the team withdrew from the deal on May 17. Injuries likely played a factor in Miami's decision. Kansas City looked at an MRI of Beimel's elbow and was OK with what it saw, according to Brown.

The 39-year-old owns a 4.06 ERA and 379 strikeouts over 676 appearances during his 13-year career with seven different teams. He spent the last two seasons with the Seattle Mariners, and appeared in 53 games for the club in 2015 while posting a 3.99 ERA.

Beimel is also the only player in major-league history to have worn uniform No. 97.
