Rangers' Josh Hamilton: To have knee surgery; season over

Hamilton will have knee surgery and miss the rest of the 2016 season, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Analysis:

He'll have the procedure in early June, but Hamilton's focus will be trying to get healthy enough to contribute in some capacity in 2017. Given the Rangers' outfield depth (even with the recent return of Shin-Soo Choo to the DL), Hamilton's playing time outlook upon return this season was cloudy.
