Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Struggles with control in Saturday loss

Ray (2-3) surrendered three hits, two runs (one earned) and four walks over five innings in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Cardinals. He struck out five.

Analysis:

It was a typically mixed bag for the D-Backs lefty, who managed to induce 10 swinging strikes, but who issued multiple free passes for the seventh time in nine starts. Ray didn't actually pitch ineffectively overall, and did keep his club in the game. However, he received precious little run support, and ultimately took his second loss in three May decisions. He'll try to right the ship against the Padres at Chase Field on Friday.
