Red Sox's David Price: Fastball velocity up in Thursday's win
Price's fastball averaged 94 mph and touched 96 mph during Thursday night's win over the Astros, the Providence Journal reports.
Analysis:
As frightful as Price's 6.75 ERA was entering Thursday's game, the real concern has been his diminished fastball velocity, which had been sitting in the 92-93 mph range. Utilizing a higher leg lift to get in what he calls his "power position," the left-hander was able to dial up the fastball, the pitch that finished off six of his 12 strikeouts. "I definitely executed a lot more pitches [Thursday night] than I have in my first seven starts," Price said. "The velocity will get there. It's the same thing every year."
