Tampa Bay Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair two fractures in his left hand and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks, the team announced.

Kiermaier sustained two metacarpal fractures on a diving attempt Saturday, forcing him to leave the game in the fifth inning against the Detroit Tigers. However, after consulting a specialist Monday, Kiermaier and the Rays opted for a surgical repair after a re-evaluation showed a mild displacement, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

"Just kind of quieted our whole dugout," Rays manager Kevin Cash said Saturday regarding the injury. "I think everyone knows the kind of energy he brings to the team on a daily basis, so we'll kind of have to work together to get through that a little bit."

The 26-year-old is batting .236/.307/.447 this season with five home runs.
