Cubs' Jon Lester: Wins third game of 2016 despite allowing 10 base runners

Lester (3-1) didn't have his best stuff, but he worked around eight hits and two walks to shut out the Pirates over 5.2 innings Wednesday afternoon. He picked up the win in the 6-2 victory and also struck out five batters.

Analysis:

Pittsburgh loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth and had runners at the corners with one out in the fifth, yet the Pirates failed to score. Four of Lester's five strikeouts came with runners in scoring position. This was his shortest outing of the season, but also the only one in which he didn't yield a run. In his other five starts, Lester has pitched at least six frames and allowed three or fewer runs. His next start is scheduled for Monday against the Padres.
