Cardinals' Tommy Pham: Embarks on rehab assignment

Pham (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Pham suffered an oblique injury on Opening Day but is finally ready to resume live game action after more than a month. If all goes well, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports that Pham could be back with the Cardinals as early as next week. The 28-year-old, who hit .268 in 153 at-bats last season, will likely step into a backup outfield role upon his return.
