Red Sox's Pablo Sandoval: Officially done for the season
Sandoval (shoulder) underwent surgery Tuesday and will officially miss the remainder of the 2016 season, Sean McAdam of CSN New England reports.
Analysis:
The news confirms what was already expected, as Sandoval is dealing with a significantly torn labrum in his left shoulder. At this point, he's expected to return for the start of the 2017 season, but a lot could change depending on how his recovery and offseason unfold. Travis Shaw figures to continue manning the hot corner for the remainder of the season, while Brock Holt and Josh Rutledge could now see some time at third as well.
