Adam Wainwright made his dreams a reality on Monday.

The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander fulfilled a childhood fantasy when he hit a towering three-run home run into the second deck of Busch Stadium against the Philadelphia Phillies.

It was the 34-year-old's seventh home run of his career, but the hurler believes this one was more special than the others.

"Every time I've come to the plate since I was 8 years old I dreamed about hitting a ball like that," Wainwright, whose home run sailed 408 feet and had an exit velocity of 105.4 mph, told reporters. "I've hit some really far homers in Little League or whatever. But I've never hit a ball, felt it, and known it was gone. I knew that was going to be a home run."

The home run didn't just bring a smile to Wainwright's face either. Batterymate Yadier Molina was ecstatic as he watched the ball sail into the crowd.

"I was jumping around here like a little kid," Molina exclaimed.

Wainwright's fourth-inning homer ended up opening the floodgates for the Cardinals, who wound up hitting five home runs in the contest.
