Red Sox's Pablo Sandoval: Likely done for season

Sandoval will likely miss the remainder of the season after he undergoes significant left shoulder surgery in a matter of days, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Analysis:

The details of Sandoval's injury remain unclear, but recent meetings with Dr. James Andrews have reportedly unveiled the need for surgery which requires significant rehabilitation. While still unconfirmed by the team, Sandoval's lengthy absence will allow Brock Holt and Josh Rutledge to battle for primary backup to Travis Shaw at third base.
