Dodgers' Josh Ravin: Suspended 80 games

MLB has handed an 80-game suspension to Ravin (arm), effectively immediately, for a positive PED test, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Analysis:

Ravin wasn't expected to be back on the mound until June due to a Feb. 29 car accident in which he broke his left radius bone. In the aftermath of the ban, he released a statement, which included an admission that he "came down with severe case of intestinal flu, strep throat, was put on antibiotics and lost 20 lbs in seven days. To speed up recovery, I took supplements I thought would help. Unfortunately, I was not as careful as I should have been, and one of the supplements contained a banned substance ... that showed up in a drug test during spring training." While admitting wrongdoing is the honorable route, he now won't be available to pitch until early August.
