Pablo Sandoval believes he's turned something of a corner.

One day after reports indicated the Boston Red Sox were encouraged by his progress since landing on the disabled list, the beleaguered third baseman - who's nursing a left shoulder strain - said his shoulder's improving.

"(It's) a lot better," Sandoval told John Tomase of WEEI.com on Wednesday. "It's still sore, but we'll see what's going on. The inflammation at least went down, it's to a good point, so now we’re going to see what’s going on there."

The 29-year-old, who's played just three games this year and has been on the DL since April 13, is still scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews about the issue - an appointment that was postponed by two weeks when his shoulder was deemed too sore to be examined properly.

Though he feels an improvement, Sandoval explained all he can do for the moment is ice his shoulder and hope for the best once he meets with Andrews. He's still not sure if the problem will require surgery.

"I'm not a doctor," he said. "I'm going to let them make the decisions. I don't know if I’m going to get surgery or not. At least I can move it around. The inflammation went down.

"I hope they can look at it and see what’s going on."
