Gomez has been diagnosed with a right hand contusion and is listed as day-to-day, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.

Analysis:

Gomez underwent X-rays after being forced from Wednesday's game in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch, but those came back negative, so it appears he avoided any sort of serious injury. He will get a free day to recover thanks to a team off day Thursday, and should have a chance to return for the Astros' next game Friday in Oakland.
