Watch: Joe Mauer's arm is still bananas

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

Joe Mauer moved out from behind the plate a couple years back due to concussion problems, but the 32-year-old hasn't lost any strength in that right arm of his that gave potential base-stealers pause for so many years.

The catcher-turned-first-baseman dusted off the old cannon in the Twins' series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, unleashing an absolute seed from shallow right field to nail Yunel Escobar at third base as he tried to stretch a double into a triple in the top of the fourth inning.

Escobar probably should've known better, frankly. In 2013, his final season behind the plate, Mauer led all American League catchers by throwing out 43 percent of potential base-stealers.
