Starlin Castro's red-hot start to 2016 now includes a personal milestone.

The New York Yankees second baseman recorded his 1,000th career hit Saturday, a single to right field off Detroit's Logan Kensing in the seventh inning. Castro's the fifth-youngest player to reach the mark in the last three decades.

Castro has been enjoying the first week of his American League career after spending the last six seasons with the Chicago Cubs. The three-time All-Star is wielding the game's hottest bat out of the gate, hitting .438 with two home runs and eight RBIs coming into Saturday's action. He put on a dominant display in New York's second game of the season, mashing four hits, a homer, and five RBIs while also scoring a run in a 16-6 thrashing of Houston.

The 26-year-old is hoping these early returns are foreshadowing a full rebound season at the plate after his numbers sharply declined across the board in 2015.
