The Chicago Cubs received quite a scare on Thursday when Kyle Schwarber was carted off the field after a violent collision with teammate Dexter Fowler, and they're now showing a lot of concern about the status of the prized young talent.

After initial reports showed the 23-year-old suffered a sprained left ankle, the Cubs appear to be more worried about the slugger's knee, reports ESPN's Buster Olney.

Schwarber underwent X-rays after the collision which came back negative, and results from an MRI scheduled for Friday are expected soon. It's likely that he'll be placed on the disabled list.

The power-hitting youngster had no regrets about getting hurt while playing at his hardest.

"I can't get mad about playing hard and getting hurt," Schwarber told reporters after the Cubs' 14-6 win. "I'd rather play hard and get hurt than not play hard and not get hurt."

Schwarber, the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft, made the Cubs' opening day roster after a strong second half in 2015, when he slashed .333/.419/.889 with a franchise-record five homers during the postseason.

Jorge Soler is expected to get the majority of playing time in Schwarber's absence, but manager Joe Maddon expects Tommy La Stella to receive more playing time at third base if he decides to rotate Kris Bryant into the outfield.
