Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber will undergo an MRI on his ankle and knee Friday after a violent collision with teammate Dexter Fowler during the second inning of Thursday's game in Arizona.

Schwarber suffered a sprained left ankle after chasing down a fly ball hit by Diamondbacks second baseman Jean Segura, and slamming into Fowler in left-center field. He remained down in pain for several minutes while being attended to by medical personnel, and was carted off the field with what appeared to be a leg injury. Segura, who led off the game with a solo shot, raced around the bases to score an inside-the-park home run on the play.

The Cubs later announced that Schwarber's initial X-rays came back negative, and an MRI is scheduled for Friday. He was spotted using crutches in the clubhouse after the game.

"I have no regrets about playing hard and getting hurt," Schwarber told reporters after the Cubs' 14-6 win.

Schwarber was replaced in left field by third baseman Kris Bryant, and Tommy La Stella entered the game to assume his spot in the lineup. The fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft, Schwarber made the Cubs' opening day roster after a torrid second half in 2015, which he capped by slashing .333/.419/.889 with a franchise-record five homers during the postseason.
