The Cubs forced tonight's Game 7 with a 9-3 victory Tuesday, nearly matching their total runs scored from the first five games of the series combined (10). Chicago is the ninth team in World Series history to force a Game 7 after trailing three games to one (in best-of-7 series only); of the previous eight teams, five also went on to win Game 7.

Tonight will be the 38th all-time Game 7 in a best-of-7 World Series. Home teams hold a slim 19-18 edge in the previous 37 such games, but had won nine in a row before the Giants won Game 7 of the 2014 series at Kansas City.

Both the Cubs and Indians are 0-2 all-time in Game 7s of best-of-7 postseason series. Chicago lost in the 1945 World Series and 2003 NLCS, while Cleveland lost in the 1997 World Series and 2007 ALCS.

Cleveland, which hadn't allowed more than five runs in any previous game this postseason, has lost back-to-back games for the first time in this year's playoffs. The Indians haven't lost three in a row since August 23-25.

Jason Kipnis is batting .308 (8/26) with five extra-base hits in the World Series, after going 1-for-19 (.053) in the ALCS against Toronto. By going 3-for-5 in last night's loss, he became the first Indians player all-time with multiple three-hit games in a given World Series, and the first with three or more three-hit games in a single postseason.

Corey Kluber is 4-1 with a 0.89 ERA (3/30.1) in five starts this postseason, with 35 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. With a win tonight, Kluber would become the first pitcher to win three games as a starter in a single World Series since Mickey Lolich with the 1968 Tigers (Randy Johnson won three games in the 2001 WS with Arizona, but one was in relief).

Addison Russell drove in six runs in Game 6, tying a World Series record shared by three others: Bobby Richardson (1960 NYY), Hideki Matsui (2009 NYY), and Albert Pujols (2011 StL). His third-inning grand slam was the 19th grand slam in World Series history, but first by a shortstop and first by a Cub.

Kyle Hendricks has made four starts this postseason (1-1, 1.31 ERA), with all four starts coming at Wrigley Field. During the regular season, Hendricks -- the MLB ERA champion (2.13) -- was 9-2 with a 1.32 ERA at home, versus 7-6 with a 2.95 ERA in road contests.

If baseball momentum is the next day's starting pitcher, the Cleveland Indians still very much like their chances of sending the Chicago Cubs home for the winter without a World Series trophy for the 109th consecutive season.
