The Cubs have reached the World Series for the first time since 1945, and are looking for their first World Series title since 1908; they have lost each of their last seven World Series (from 1910 to 1945). Cleveland is in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1997, and hasn't won the World Series since 1948.

These franchises have never previously met in the World Series. They have split 18 all-time regular-season interleague matchups, most recently winning two apiece in four meetings in June 2015. Cleveland had nine fewer wins than Chicago in the 2016 regular season (94 versus 103), but has home-field advantage by virtue of the AL's 4-2 win in the All-Star game on July 12.

Teams winning Game 1 of the World Series have gone on to win the series in 12 of the past 13 years, including each of the last six. All-time, teams winning Game 1 have won the World Series 64.0 percent of the time (71 of 111).

Cleveland defeated the Blue Jays in the ALCS, 4-1, despite averaging just 2.40 runs per game with a .168 batting average. The Indians held Toronto to 1.60 runs per game and a .201 average in the series.

The Cubs averaged 5.17 runs per game on the road in the regular season, second only to the Cardinals (5.23). In five road playoff games this year, they've scored 5.80 runs per contest, compared to 3.80 per game at home.

Anthony Rizzo was 2-for-26 (.077) with no RBI in this year's playoffs entering Game 4 of the NLCS at Los Angeles. In the final three games of the series -- all Chicago wins -- he went 7-for-14 (.500) with two home runs and five RBI.

In three starts this postseason, Jon Lester is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA (2 ER/21.0 IP). And in three career World Series outings -- one in 2007 and two in 2013, all with Boston -- Lester is 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA (1 ER/21.0 IP). Lester was named co-MVP of the NLCS against the Dodgers, with Javier Baez.

In his final 19 games of the regular season, Francisco Lindor hit just .103 (6-for-58). He's hitting a team-best .323 this postseason (10-for-31; minimum 10 PA), with four multi-hit games out of eight played.

Corey Kluber didn't allow a run this postseason until the third inning of his third start (Game 4 of the ALCS at Toronto). His streak of 15.1 scoreless innings to start his postseason career is tied for the sixth longest all-time, and was the longest since Steve Avery opened with 16.1 scoreless innings for the 1991 Braves.
