The Pirates defeated the Brewers, 3-1, on Sunday, sweeping four straight at Miller Park over the weekend, and recording their eighth straight road win overall -- tied for the longest road winning streak in MLB this season. Pittsburgh has swept four 2+ game road series this season (tied for fourth most in the majors).

The Cubs lost, 1-0, to the Dodgers in Los Angeles yesterday, dropping two of three over the weekend, and finishing up a nine-game road trip with a mark of 5-4. Including four straight wins, Chicago is 19-5 at Wrigley Field since the 2016 All-Star break (best in MLB).

Chicago is 9-3 vs. the Pirates in 2016, including winning five of six meetings with the Bucs at Wrigley Field. The Cubs have hit 20 home runs against Pittsburgh this year -- their most in a single season since going deep 21 times vs. the Pirates in 2007.

Steven Brault is expected to be called up to make his third career MLB start tonight, replacing Gerrit Cole (elbow) in the rotation. Brault is one of five different rookie hurlers to start at least one game for the Pirates this season -- tied for third most in MLB.

Jake Arrieta pitched 8.0 innings of scoreless two-hit ball last Tuesday in San Diego, beating the Padres, and improving to 4-0 with a 1.98 ERA in four starts this month. Arrieta is 7-2 with a 1.82 ERA in 11 outings vs. the Pirates since joining the Cubs on July 2, 2013.

Andrew McCutchen went 1-for-5 yesterday, extending his hit streak to six straight games (.409 BA during streak) -- tied for his second longest of the season. Including four bombs this year, McCutchen has gone deep 10 times against the Cubs since 2014 (most of any MLB player).

CHICAGO -- After giving up three runs on five hits in throwing only 39 pitches Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago Cubs are moving Jason Hammel up one day in the rotation to start Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"I didn't even pitch today in my mind," Hammel told the Chicago Sun-Times after the game Saturday. "I barely threw 40 pitches. It was a side day for me pretty much."
