With a record of 8-5 versus the White Sox this season, the Tigers need two more victories to assure their seventh consecutive winning season in the series. It's Detroit's longest streak versus Chicago since capturing nine straight season series against the White Sox between 1942 and 1950.

The White Sox scored four runs on five hits on Sunday for their sixth win in their past eight games. It was just the second time since 1930 (8/17/1992 versus the Yankees) in which the White Sox scored at least four runs while totaling no more than five hits and one walk and failing to hit any home runs.

After averaging 7.8 runs and batting .328 as a team while winning their previous five games, the Tigers were limited to just two runs and 12 hits combined (.190 batting average) while dropping their last two games to the Angels.

James Shields has hit another rough patch in his 2016 season. After fashioning a 1.71 ERA and allowing a .209 batting average over six starts between June 29 and the end of July, Shields has compiled a 13.95 ERA to go along with a .408 opponent batting average over five starts in August.

Entering July, Matt Boyd's career record of 1-8 corresponded to a 7.17 ERA. But he's undefeated over the past two months, when Boyd has gone 5-0 while compiling a 2.38 ERA. Left-handed batters have hit just .150 versus Boyd since the beginning of July.

Miguel Cabrera is batting .392 with three homers and 11 RBI against the White Sox this season. Since 2011, Cabrera leads all players with 22 homers, 71 RBI and 69 runs scored versus the Sox.

DETROIT -- JaCoby Jones began the season as a Double-A player serving a lengthy suspension. He heads into the final month as the Detroit Tigers' choice to boost their inconsistent attack.
The 24-year-old Jones had his contract purchased from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday and was immediately inserted into the lineup at third base. He delivered in his first game, rapping out two hits and driving in two runs in an 8-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

DETROIT (AP)  JaCoby Jones is the latest youngster to give the Detroit Tigers a boost in their push for a postseason spot.
Jones doubled twice in his second major league game, then dashed home for the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Collins in the ninth inning to lift the Tigers over the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday.
