Since 2010, the Rockies and Nationals have split their 44 meetings. Colorado took two of three at Coors Field last week despite being outhit 32-30 and outhomered 5-3 over the three games.

Max Scherzer and Mark Melancon combined for a three-hit shutout last night in the Nationals' 4-0 win over the Orioles. Washington had allowed 64 runs over its previous nine games (7.1 runs per game). It was Scherzer's fifth game this season with 10+ strikeouts and no walks, the most in a season in franchise history (including Expos).

DJ LeMahieu has a .390 career batting average (30-for-77) in 21 games against the Nationals, including going 9-for-12 in the teams' three-game series last week. The nine hits tie the most by any NL player in a three-game series this season.

Bryce Harper has picked things up since missing a week with a stiff neck, going 18-for-46 (.391) with six extra-base hits and 13 RBI over the last 12 games. Harper has reached base in each of those 12 games.

Jeff Hoffman gave up seven runs on Saturday, tying the franchise record for most runs allowed in a pitcher's MLB debut (Shawn Chacon, Juan Morillo and Edwar Cabrera). Hoffman was the ninth overall pick in the 2014 draft and was traded to Colorado in the Troy Tulowitzki deal last July.

Gio Gonzalez is 4-1 over his last five starts, thanks in large part to his offense. In his one loss, he received one run of support in six innings. In his four wins, he received 32 runs of support in 24 innings (12.00 RSA).

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rain is not in the forecast for Sunday afternoon and that is good news for Chad Bettis, slated to start for the Colorado Rockies in Washington.
In his first career start against the Nationals, Bettis went three innings in Denver on Aug. 16 before a two-hour rain delay prevented him from going any longer.
