The Rays won two of three games versus the Astros in Tampa Bay in June earlier this season and are 22-8 versus Houston since the start of the 2010 season, the best record by any team versus any opponent over that span (minimum 30 games).

The Rays split their four-game series at home versus Boston earlier this week, posting a 2.13 team ERA over the course of the series. Tampa Bay has now posted a 2.91 ERA since the All-Star break (best in the AL) after recording a 4.57 ERA prior to the break (12th best in the AL).

The Astros won two of three games at Pittsburgh earlier this week and have now won five of their last six games played, overall. Houston is 66-61 on the season after finishing last season with an 86-76 record; the Astros have not posted a winning record in consecutive seasons since doing so in six straight seasons from 2001 to 2006.

Alex Bregman has recorded at least one hit and one run in each of his last three games and in 13 of 18 games played since August 6, tied with the Cubs' Kris Bryant for the most such games in MLB over that span.

The Rays have won each of Drew Smyly's last five starts after winning just six of his first 19 starts of the season. Over those five starts, Smyly has posted a 3.03 ERA while holding opponent batters to a .183 batting average.

Mike Fiers recorded his ninth win of the season in his last start at Baltimore last Saturday, allowing just one run over seven innings pitched. Fiers' nine wins this season are tied for his single-season career high (also 2012).

HOUSTON -- When the Houston Astros suffered through a grueling offensive slump that bridged the final two games of July with the opening week of August, they hoped that the additions of Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel would eventually lengthen their lineup and correct their problems.
The Astros scored a total of 18 runs while losing eight of 10 games before finding their footing in Minnesota on Aug. 9. On Saturday night, in their 6-2 win over the Rays, the Astros (68-61) showcased the balanced offense they sorely craved.

HOUSTON (AP)  Despite a 10-year age gap, Astros rookies Alex Bregman and Yulieski Gurriel are facing some of the same challenges in adjusting to the majors.
The pair showcased the skills that got them here Saturday night, combining for four hits and five RBIs to help Houston beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-2.
